Automatic covers play a crucial role in pool safety by eliminating access to the water. They also provide savings on heating costs by keeping the pool 8 to 10 degrees warmer than an uncovered pool. These covers ,when deployed regularly, help keep dirt and debris out of the pool and virtually eliminate evaporation and reducing chemical costs.
At the touch of a button and in a minute or less a pool a durable vinyl fabric moves out of a housing box and stretches over the water along parallel tracks on each side of the pool. These tracks can be encapsulated (set under the pool's coping, so they are low-profile) or top guided (flush with the deck).
Top-guided systems can be installed on existing pools; an encapsulated system is best installed (for cost reasons) when a pool is under construction.
While covers are generally installed on rectangular pools, they can also be installed on the currently popular vanishing-edge pools.
2003 & 2006 International Residential Code (IRC) Appendix G, Section 106 states that: All pool and spa single or multiple outlet circulation systems shall be equipped with atmospheric vacuum relief should grate covers located therein become missing or broken. Such vacuum relief systems shall include at least one approved or engineered method of the type specified herein as follows: Safety vacuum release system conforming to ASME A112.19.17, or An approved gravity drainage system.
There are currently six products available to meet option 1, ASME A112.19.17 Safety vacuum release system (SRVS) requirement.
Shoreline principally uses the Haywood Stratum VRS, since it's designed to provide an additional layer of protection against body suction entrapment.
