In Pool Inspection, Pool Opening, Pool Safety

We already know what you’re thinking: “ALREADY?! It’s the middle of February! Summer isn’t for another 4 months!” You’re absolutely correct, summer isn’t for another couple of months; however, those four months will fly by and summer will be here before you know it! The next thing you know, you’ll be scurrying around stressed as you try to get your pool ready for Memorial Day. Meanwhile, you’ll be wishing that you took our advice; we’ve seen it happen all too often.

We’re not saying that you need to get everything in order in February, but it will definitely help to have a game plan to ensure that your pool opening runs smoothly. Here are a few inside tips that will make sure that your pool is ready for use when summer finally arrives.

Contact and Book Your Pool Service Provider

We’ve all heard that saying: “The early bird gets the worm!” If you rely on a pool service to assist your pool opening, NOW is the time to correspond with them and schedule them in advance. As it gets closer to summer, their schedules will become busier; which means that you may miss out on your chance to book an appointment. Here’s a helpful rhyme for you to remember: “Don’t delay, don’t wait for May. Do it today or later you’ll pay.”

Make sure you schedule their services in advance and let them know the exact date that you want your pool opened. Be sure to provide them with important information such as: damages your pool may have acquired over the winter, features you have installed over the years, as well as any problems or concerns that you may have encountered such as leakage.

Check Your Equipment

Inspecting every aspect of your pool is imperative. Winter may have been harsh, which may have resulted in your equipment becoming damaged. By inspecting these important tools early, you can access whether or not it needs to be repaired or replaced all together.

In particular, we recommend that you inspect your filter and pump because they tend to suffer damages the most.

Restock Your Chemicals

If you store your own inventory of chemicals, it’s time to get them out and evaluate them. Be sure to replace any vials with past expiration dates, re-label those with fading print, and re-order what you need for this season.

Stock the First Aid Kit

Hopefully, you will never need it, but give yourself peace of mind knowing that you are prepared. Accidents around pools can happen at the most unexpected times. Someone may slip on the wet concrete, or something much worse. Trust us when we say that you don’t want to be unprepared for any accidents this summer. It’s always better to be safe than sorry, especially in regard to children and elderly visitors.

Establish House Rules

We recommend this step if you have children. When children are involved it is very important to create a set of Pool Safety Rules, which details what is and what is not acceptable during the pool. Be sure to display it prominently and make sure to review it with family and guests before anyone swims. Doing so will ensure that everyone will remain safe while still having a fun time.
