Pool Design Trends for 2017

 In Custom Pool Design

A new year means new trends for interior design, landscape design, and, of course, swimming pool design. Planning and designing a swimming pool has never been more exciting because we have certainly come a long way from your generic rectangular swimming pool. Over the years, new trends in swimming pool remodeling and construction have become more unique and more customized to fit the needs of each homeowner.

Forget the old days of rectangular cookie-cutter swimming pools. These days, you can create the pool that you’ve always dreamed of owning. While swimming season is still a few months a way, the experts at Shoreline Pools have created a list of swimming pool trends that we believe will dominate 2017.

Tile Design

These days you can customize your pool to feature a wide array of tiles. At Shoreline Pools, we believe that two specific materials will be popular in 2017.  First and foremost, we expect to see a surge of Mosaic tiles integrated into swimming pools. Pool owners will soon take advantage of the aesthetic beauty a mosaic tile can provide. These tiles can be individually customized and you can even incorporate unique designs. In addition, they can be installed into your swimming pool easily.

Secondly, we believe that Glass tile, a fan favorite, will still remain popular this year.  This material is more durable than ceramic or porcelain tiles. Furthermore, glass tiles can add a beautiful touch of color to your pool design, and come in a variety of styles, shapes and sizes.

Sun Shelves

We have no doubt that pool owners will add new features to their pool this year; however, the sun shelf will definitely be a favorite. Also known as a Baja shelf, a sun shelf can make you feel as though they are at a 5-star resort.  A sun shelf is a flat, shallow area in your pool, before the deep end of the swimming pool. Due to its shallow depth, a sun shelf is also an excellent area for small children, a family pet, or even someone who is handicapped to cool off during a hot summer afternoon.

Hydrotherapy Jets

It’s no secret that a pool has many health benefits. In particular, hydrotherapy uses water mineral, temperature and pressure to revitalize your body. Hydrotherapy has been known to:

  • Reduce muscle tension while relieving pain
  • Rehabilitate injured muscles
  • Relieve stress

As more people learn about the benefits of hydrotherapy, we believe that jets will be added to many pools for relaxing massages. The installation of these jets will allow pool owners to enjoy a day at the spa without ever having to leaving their backyard!

Unique Pool Shapes

Pool owners are no longer limited to a boring square or rectangular pool shape. Over the years, we have seen the most incredible and unique pools shapes ranging from L-shaped, oval, and octagonal as well as shapes that you would never believe.

In addition, we have constructed and designed pools with features such as waterfalls, sloped entries, swim-up bars and more! Trust as when we say that more innovations are in store for 2017!

Water Features

In 2015, we predicted that water features such as fountains, waterfalls, water-walls and cascade features would dominate the pool construction industry, and we were correct! We also believe that the same rings true in 2017. Not only are these features aesthetic masterpieces that will increase the value of your pool, but the sound or running and moving water will help sooth your soul. What better way to REALLY relax in your pool!

More Pool Predictions?

As 2017 continues to unfold, we will be able to have a better understanding of which pool design trends will emerge. Who knows? Maybe a new and unexpected innovation will reveal itself in time.
